Synopsis Rena is trapped in a strange area and cut off from the rest of the world! Piecing together recent events, she is unable to contact Shugo. Meanwhile, Shugo is now a wanted character and having quite a difficult time moving about in 'The World'. Things look bad until they get a visit from an unexpected character who gives them information. The group realizes that they are dealing with a wandering AI, a non-player character that has gained consciousness. Shugo and his twin sister Rena are two of the newest players to join “The World.” And they’ve won a very special prize in a contest?they get to use the character likenesses of the legendary Kite and Black Rose. Such a prize is very rare indeed, and it makes them the center of a lot of attention. The pair will encounter friends and allies, but it soon becomes very clear that they are not ordinary players. On the .hack//Integration DVD there was a bonus audio drama called .hack//Let's Meet Offline which was a story about Hotaru and Sanjuro from the US go to meet the rest of the cast over in Japan. They discuss many things, but the main focus is primarily on Hotaru. This also plays into Hotaru's gender for those who are unaware. Although they briefly mention Sanjuro is American, in the .hack//Archives_03 book this goes further and say that Sanjuro was from South Dakota. Also Shugo is surprised just about everyone's real life self such as Mierille's age, Ouka's offline appearance/personality, Hokuto's gender, and Sanjuro being American.
