For awhile now, we've known .hack//VERSUS works perfectly on the PS3 emulator RPCS3. Back then there was no way to connect to PSN to play online. Until recently, RPCN a emulated PSN is now available. Today we tested .hack//VERSUS on RPCN and it plays flawlessly, you can even earn trophy's. Join our discord chat to learn how to setup and find players to match. https://discord.gg/yybPQgmAAa

How to Setup RPCS3

Download PS3 emulator RPCS3 for your OS https://rpcs3.net/download

Use your own PS3 firmware, or the one online at http://web.archive.org/web/20170621092043/http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2016_1101_b2483b4abc157494447c9c409c036041/PS3UPDAT.PUP

Adjust the emulator core settings as follows:

PPU Decoder > Recomplier (LLVM),
SPU Decoder > Recomplier (ASMJIT),
Additional Settings > [Check] Lower SPU thread priority

Adjust the emulator graphic settings as follows:
GPU Tab
Renderer > Vulcan
Aspect Ratio > 16:9

Everything else on page unchecked

Either find a ROM for VERSUS online or make an ISO of your own disc and move file to dev_hdd0\game

How to Setup RPCN

You can connect .hack//VERSUS online with the (PSN) Play Station Network normally on any PS3 console.
Reminder that .hack//VERSUS is a Japanese import but the PS3 is not region locked, you can play out of the box.

You can also connect (tentatively) .hack//VERSUS online with the emulator RPCS3's own private network RPCN with the setup guide here.

There are a few steps to configure Netplay in RPCS3 which we will cover here.

Global configuration

First, configure the global settings as follows:

Ensure you're using the latest version of RPCS3.
    Navigate to Configuration > RPCN.
Ensure Host is set to np.rpcs3.net.
Set NPID to the username of your choice.
Click Set Password and type a custom password for your account. DO NOT FORGET THIS PASSWORD.
Click Create Account and you will be prompted to enter your email address. Enter your email address and press Ok.
If all goes well, you'll see a message that your account was created successfully.
Check your email for a new email from RPCN with your token, copy and paste the token into the Token field in RPCN configuration and press Save.
Game-specific configuration

Next, configure the per-game configuration as follows:

In the game list, right-click on the game you wish to play and press Create Custom Configuration.
    Navigate to the Network tab.
    Set Network Status to Connected.
    Set PSN Status to RPCN.
Ensure DNS is set to 8.8.8.8, unless a different address is required for the game.

You must have the latest RPCS3, make a RPCN account, and you can connect online. However players playing on consoles who connect to the PSN can NOT connect to players playing RPCN and vice versa. Therefore if you see nobody online with RPCS3, that's because there's nobody playing.

Straight from https://rpcs3.net/quickstart

Dumping Step-by-step

In case the easy way didn't work for you, here's a compiled list of the step-by-step instructions we used for dumping disc-based PlayStation 3 titles. (Not recommended)
.iso Patcher 78 KB - BlackDaemon https://rpcs3.net/cdn/tools/patcher.zip
.iso Tools 3.3 MB - 3K3Y https://rpcs3.net/cdn/tools/patcher.zip
ImgBurn 3.8 MB - Lightning UK! https://www.imgburn.com/

  1. Insert a PlayStation 3 format disc title of your choice into your compatible Blu-ray drive.
  2. Create the .iso image using an .iso dumping program of your choosing, e.g. ImgBurn or IsoBuster.
  3. Use https://ps3.aldostools.org/ird to download the appropriate .ird file that matches your title ID. If there isn't an .ird file that matches your title ID, you cannot use this method to dump your selected PlayStation 3 disc at this time and will need to use your PS3.
  4. Be sure to check the title ID in case there is a different edition of that title. e.g. Uncharted 2 Game of the Year Edition. You must use the correct .ird with the same title ID, otherwise it will not work. (Example: .ird file for Demon's Souls US disc does not work with Demon's Souls EU disc).
  5. Using PS3 ISO Patcher, select the matching .iso and .ird files, then press Patch to apply the decryption keys to the .iso file.
  6. Using 3K3Y IsoTools press Decrypt button and select the .iso with patched-in decryption keys. This will produce a decrypted .dec.iso file.
  7. Optionally, validate that you have successfully obtained the correct copy of your game.
You will need to install PS3 ISO Rebuilder tool from https://archive.org/download/ps3-iso-rebuilder-1.0.4.1
Load your .dec.iso file and your .ird file in the program and let it verify the dump. All of your files must be either Valid or Not required.
  8. In 3K3Y ISO Tools, use the Tools drop-down menu to select ISO > Extract ISO and then select the decrypted .iso file to extract its files.
Another option is to use 7-zip or any other software that is capable of extracting .iso images and extract to a folder.
  9. You are now able to use the extracted .iso files with RPCS3.
